What? So what?
Fourth year. Another year of my time here at UC. Time is definitely flying by. This year has been tremendously great. I have learned so much externally as well as internally of my true-self. Last year was the year of my self-identity in a national level, but I know this year has been a journey for me to understand the person who I am, what I am good at, what I would like to do in the future, the person I would like to become.
As an older design student, I was involved in more important projects – those that truly have impacts and meanings behind the design. That alone itself made me a lot happier as a designer, because I know I am learning to become a helpful citizen of the earth, and that I have the capability to solve some bigger issues. I learn what I am good at – not necessarily just at the skills I have, but I also learn to trust myself and ability a little more everyday. I learn that I am a hard-worker and a resilient person – working hard for what I want and what I believe, and not afraid of failing and trying again.
This past year I especially learn the true lesson and valuable outcome of working hard as a group. Late nights working with other team members on our project Coconut (see link here) was worth it when we were able to make the outcome so great. It was a lesson of teamwork, trusting other people, as well as becoming in-sync. From this project, I also learned how much I care for other people as a small community and the world as a whole. This has also shaped me into a direction that I’m going into now: being able to shape people’s behavior through design for a better world.
Now what?
It’s so great to finally have an idea of what type of person I am as well as what I want to do in the future. As soon as I realized this, I tried my best to grab any opportunities that help me get closer to my ideal self. As for the future, I will try to get involve in these specific type of projects, especially if it is about nutrition, health, and identity. I'm excited for the next few years to come, as I want to see and reflect on the person I will become.
